Portland is blessed with a vibrant biking community and many choices in bike shops. So thanks for taking the time to check us out.
Bikes have been my passion since I was young kid growing up in Gresham, Oregon. Although I often dreamed of having my own bike shop, after college I ended up working for several years in personal finance doing budget and credit counseling. Then I decided to make the leap and enrolled in United Bike Institute to become a certified bicycle mechanic.
I opened my shop in 2013 and named it Block Bikes because it captures the spirit of what we’re about: The building “block” or foundation of what makes cycling such a joy is a reliable, well-tuned bike that perfectly suits your individual needs.
Today I’m proud to live and work in St. Johns, a diverse community with a small-town feel. The personal connections I make through Block Bikes are just one reason why I find this work so rewarding.
When I’m not at Block Bikes, I’m often on my own bike (surprise!) exploring places like Stub Stewart State Park, or taking an evening ride at Kelley Point Park. I also referee for high school wrestling, and enjoy dancing and karaoke.
The last time I counted, I had four bikes in my house. The one I use most often is my ‘80s-era single-speed Schwinn mountain bike (I’ve since upgraded this bike and love it even more). It’s very bike nerdy and ideal for cruising around my neighborhood.
Whatever bike you own, or hope to own, stop by Block Bikes and say hi. Discover why we’re the perfect place to build your bike love.
